Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Tom Koehler (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore Michael Stephan (Patchogue, N.Y.) were named America East Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced on Monday. It marks the second straight week the Seawolves have swept the Pitcher and Player of the week honors.
Koehler earned the honor for the second consecutive week and third time this season as he went the distance to pick up the win in the Seawolves' home opener on Friday. The right-hander scattered seven hits over his 9.0 innings of work, allowing just one run while striking out a season-high 11 batters. Koehler's performance improved his season ERA to 2.88, good for second in the conference.
Stephan posted a batting average of .427 and an on-base percentage of .667 this week. The sophomore hit a game-tying home run with two outs in the ninth inning against NYIT in a game the Seawolves went on to win, 10-7. Stephan scored five runs and knocked in three including a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning on Sunday against NYIT that proved to be the game-winner.
The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, traveling to take on in-state rival Hofstra. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
