Raiders Win on Opening Day

The Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity take out Commack with help from John Shwonik, 6-1

John Shwonik went 3-3 at the plate, sparking the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity to a 6-1 victory in seven innings over Commack on Tuesday at Patchogue-Medford High School.

He singled in the third inning and doubled in the first and sixth innings.

 

Nick Clemente was in control on the mound. Commack managed just two hits off of Clemente, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out six during his 6 2/3 innings of work.

 

Jesse Kilmetis was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked two, struck out none, and allowed three runs.

The Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity never trailed after scoring two runs in the third on a groundout by Rich Ciufo and an RBI single by Matt Codispoti.

The Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity piled on four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A single by Rich ignited the offense,, scoring Josh Mercurio.

Commack's lone run of the ballgame came in the seventh inning on an RBI double by William Monroy.
