The Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity outlasted Brentwood on Thursday after seven lead changes, squeaking out a 9-7 win at Brentwood State Park.
The Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. A two-run error scored Vito Morabito and Brad Malm and gave the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity the lead for good.
Josh Mercurio racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity. He homered in the first inning and singled in the third inning.
Brentwood's lineup had no answer for Frank Papanikolatos. Brentwood managed just one hit off of the the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out one during his four innings of work.
The Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Papanikolatos singled, scoring Malm after a double by Malm got things started. Brentwood tied the game in the second on a passed ball that scored Yeaza Santino.
Brentwood survived the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity's surge and put up two runs of its own in the third. Brentwood scored on an RBI double byCooper Maselli and an RBI single by David Soto.
The lead was the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity's to lose after sixth inning. More runs came home on an error.
