Raiders Need One For Playoffs

Despite Brad Malm's 2-4 performance at the plate on Thursday, the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity took a 10-2 loss at the hands of Ward Melville at Ward Melville.

Malm put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity. He doubled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning.

Davern got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over seven innings. Davern struck out four, walked four and gave up seven hits.

Ward Melville 's Vitale, Davern, Morelli and Rizzi combined for eight hits and seven RBIs.

Thomas Pannullo ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in three innings, walked one and struck out three.

The top of the second saw the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity take an early lead, 1-0. A single by Andrew Ciufo, scoring Anthony Schiano started the inning off.

Ward Melville never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring four runs on three singles.

Ward Melville got two-run boosts in each of the third, fourth and sixth. In the third, Ward Melville scored on a two-run single by Morelli, bringing home Lamonica and Davern.

One run in the top of the fifth helped the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity close their deficit to 8-2. A solo home run by Malm gave the Patchogue-Medford Raiders Varsity life. But, Davern got Erik Matz to fly out to end the inning.
