Mike Salvatore went 3-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs for No. 4 Patchogue-Medford (19-6) in a Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Salvatore's first-pitch, three-run homer sparked a five-run first inning in which Billy Garofalo and James Raimondi also hit solo homers for Patchogue, which hosts No. 6 East Islip (18-7) in Game 1 of the best-of-three Suffolk championship series at 4 p.m. Tuesday. It is Patchogue's first trip to the Suffolk finals since 1974, when it last won a county title. T.J. Phelan won his second straight complete-game, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk, and nine strikeouts. Frank DiPresso went 4-for-5 with a double and three runs for Pat-Med. He scored on Salvatore's seventh inning double to make it 8-3, ending Smithtown righthander Greg Gilroy's streak of innings without allowing an earned run at 32 1/3. Garofalo went 3-for-5 with run-scoring hits in each of the first three innings. Smithtown West is 20-4.
